About Our Psychologist
 Dr.
Gary Groom, PhD. is
a Clinical Psychologist. He received his doctoral degree from Purdue
University in 1973 and completed internship training at Indiana University
School of Medicine. He remained at Indiana University School of Medicine
as a faculty member until 1986. Dr. Groom has been practicing in St.
George since 1986. He treats a variety of disorders; however, he has
a special interest in pain and stress management. Dr. Groom is trained
in biofeedback, and he uses biofeedback to enhance pain and anxiety
management.
As a Clinical Psychologist,
Dr. Groom is trained and experienced in the evaluation and treatment
of emotional and behavioral concerns ranging from child and family issues,
including marriage counseling, to treatment of depression. He does testing
and evaluation of learning disabilities, cognitive and emotional problems.
Treatment strategies
are supportive and goal-oriented. Stress-management and coping skills
are emphasized. Self regulation is a general goal for all our patients
including those with injury, chronic pain and other physical challenges.
Dr. Groom is a member
of the American Psychological Association, the Utah Psychological Association,
the Society of Behavioral Medicine, and the Association for Applied
Psychophysiology and Biofeedback. Dr. Groom is an active member of the
medical staff at Dixie Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Groom is married
to RuLaine, and they have 6 children.
